On being a Nurse

On my third day of giving thanks, I am thankful for being able to do what I love to make a living. Throughout school , I had my doubts about becoming a nurse but all of those doubts are gone. Sure, its hard waking up before the sun comes up; and sure its hard being on my feet for 12+ hours in a day (or 16 like I did yesterday). But the day to day reward is that I get to take care of people every day that wouldn't be able to do so on their own.

One of my patients told me that she thanks God every day for the nurses and aides that take care of her. One patient told me, I never get tired of you coming in to see me even though it means another shot or more pills to take because you are always smiling. Yesterdays, as my supervisor was introducing me to a new employee, she told her how great and attentive I was. It always feels great knowing that I'm appreciated.

I suppose I've got to give credit to my wonderful instructors at school, especially my clinical instructors. They taught me how to be a caring, attentive patient advocate that. So hopefully you too are able to for what you love every day, because its the best.
