Without blogging

Blogging is a funny thing, to me it is a lot like high school. There are the seniors, who have been blogging for a while and know their way around, and then there's you. Scared and excited and anticipating everything all at once.

You start things off a little awkwardly, then you find a friend, then more. You find out what days to bring your lunch and where the cool kids sit in the cafeteria. You learn the ropes, become a reply-blogger. Start emailing those "big blogs" and realize they're real people, and they too started off a little awkwardly.

You pour your mind, heart, and soul on "paper" for the whole world (wide web) to read, to see, to judge. And you're nervous as hell about it. Then there's the person on the other side of another screen telling you that they've been there too, they understand, they thought they were the only one.

Blogging has brought me joy that I didn't think possible. I've become close to so many wonderful ladies, and continue to connect with more on a daily basis. The support in this community is unreal; from when I'm feeling down or unsure of myself, to accomplishing something great, you're always there. My readers, cheering me on, lifting me up, and offering their congratulations and I can't get enough of it.

On a less serious note, in addition to gaining friendships, blogging has led me to find a few more things that I may not have discovered without it. Without blogging I wouldn't have:

Twitter
Yep, before I started blogging I didn't have a twitter. I just didn't see the point of updating ("tweeting") my every move to people I didn't even care about. As a blogger though, twitter is an important tool. Not only is it great for advertising or giving shout outs, but it's a quick way to get in touch with someone.

Abita
I had heard of Abita beers but never tried them before I started blogging, and after hearing all of the rave, I had to try for myself.
It didn't disappoint
Selfies
Sure, I snapped the occasional picture of myself. The pace picked up a little more when I discovered Instagram. But blogging gave a whole new purpose to the art of selfie taking.
A good blog post selfie every now and then is appropriate. Especially if you're like me and you don't have a fancy shmancy camera + your boyfriend/husband won't take your pictures for you or you are too ashamed to ask. (I still don't understand why I don't have a million snapchat friends, I feel like I'd be really good at it)

Wanderlust
With bloggers that get to travel a lot or bloggers that live abroad, my wanderlust has intensified x1000. My "to travel" list has grown tenfold and grows every day. I should be winning the lottery any day now. JK I live in Alabama and we don't have the lottery. So who wants to take me with them on their next big trip? I promise I'm a good travel buddy!

What would you have never discovered without blogging?

I love it! This fit me perfectly. I am still in the awkward stage I guess, maybe a sophomore? I was the same way about Twitter and the selfies!

I'm so glad I am not the only one who has to take selfies, I feel totally weird asking someone to take my picture.

I think blogging has definitely helped my writing. And I think it's helping me discover fashion better, I need all the help I can get in that department!

Haha...loved your intro. I have always thought blogging was a bit like HS, whith the cliques and what not! I cant help but think of the Mean Girls line "we wear pink on Wednesdays" when everyone (incl. me) posts outfit pics on Wednesdays.

I still don't like twitter, but I have it.

Blogging made me get an Instagram account too.

I got back into this blogging world thanks to Personal Finance bloggers. I desperately wanted to quit my part time job and started reading random PF posts about girls about my age paying off their debts, etc. A few months later, I started PF Blogging myself, and now actually know how much money I make, how much I spend, what I spend it on, etc. Before blogging, I had a general idea, but that wasn't good enough!

I'm glad blogging made me take selfies too! I barely had pictures of myself, and I think it will be cool when I'm older to be able to look back (or you know, get real sentimental and give a good one to my daughter or something...)

I love this post, it's all so true! I didn't have/understand Twitter before I started blogging either. And I've never heard of Abita, I think I may have to try it now.

Great post! I actually found one of my very first selfies before ever blogging. I was so ashamed of taking it bc I felt so self-absorbed. It's now one of my fave pics of all time.

And, yes. I wanna travel too!

Love it! What were selfies before you came into the blog world? And those who don't blog totally don't get it! You rock! Thanks so much for linking up! :)

I'm obviously really late coming to this post, but I felt like I was the one writing the beginning part of it. As I still consider myself a newbie, this is oh so true for me!

Wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading your posts (even if I am a little late to some of them)!
