Songs that define me

When Helene announced her "Songs that Define me" link up last week, I was super duper pumped. I love listening to all genres of music, and I especially love singing. Mostly singing in my car or while I'm cleaning the kitchen, but sometimes I'll get a wild hair and do it at a bar with a mic and a crowd watching me. Anywho... back to the point. Songs that define me. Go:
You can Have Whatever You Like - T.I.

This song was my lady jam my freshman year of college. I danced on coffee tables had a really good time listening/dancing/jamming out to this song for a whole semester. Every time I hear it it takes me back to questionable decisions and some of the best times of my life.
Free Fallin' - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

Ever since my parent's bought Tom Petty and The Heartbreaker's greatest hits album, or maybe even before that, I have loved this song. I wouldn't say it "relates" to me or "describes me" in any way (except the "loves her mama" part, that will always be true). There's just something about the song, no matter what kind of mood I'm in, that will always leave me smiling when the song is over. Think of Jerry McGuire and that's me basically every time this song comes on. Except I did that before I ever saw the movie so you can't say I copied him.
Amazing Grace

I debated a good while on whether or not I'd add this song to the list, even though it was absolutely the first song that came to mind. Besides having the beautiful lyrics and their meaning, my mother, along with my late Grandmother, sang this song to me every night before I went to bed for more than 11 years. The song has always and will always hold a special place in my heart, and every time I hear it I know that I have someone special watching over me.
To Make You Feel My Love - Mick McAuley & Winfred Horan
(originally performed by Bob Dylan but I enjoy this version a little more)

Derek and I actually don't have "a song" because he's not crazy about music like I am. He's just one of those people that listens to it as white noise but he appreciates a good Rush song every now and again. Not to get too sappy or anything but whenever I hear this song, my heart swells and I think of Derek and all of the love I have for him. The lyrics are so simple and so true. There's nothing that I would not do, to make you feel my love.

What are some songs that describe you or remind you of a certain time in life? Link up with Helene and share!

That's so sweet that your mom and grandmother sang amazing grace to you. I can see why that song would mean something to you.

Is it weird that Free Falling makes me think of Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire??? I do love that song though.

Amazing Grace is the one song that can take me to so many places and memories. Harmonizing in the choir with friends, or singing it at a loved ones funeral. Such a beautiful timeless song, and a nice reminder. Loved your songs :)
