Things about my Town for which I'm Thankful

How do you like that grammatically correct title? Did you know that it's considered to end a sentence with a preposition? For a while, I did not and now that I know, I can't un-know it and now I'm that asshole person correcting everyone for saying "Things I'm thankful for." Whoops.

Anyway, back to the original point of this post. My town. Montgomery (Alabama), in case you didn't know. Sometimes it's hard to remember to be thankful for things, especially when there are certain things you resent about those things for which we should be thankful. Does that make sense? No? Okay let me explain: I never wanted to live in central Alabama. All through high school and most of college, it was my plan to move to the beach after I graduated nursing school. There were so many perks: I'd still be close to my parents, there was great shopping everywhere, and the BEACH, duh.

But then girl meets boy and blah blah blah, I find myself living in the State Capitol. So it's not that I don't like the home or friend's I've made here, there's just a teeny part of me that still wishes I could be living at the beach year round.

Thanfully, there are a few things that I do enjoy about living here.
Firstly (and most importantly) there's the river. If there's one thing Derek and I agree on 100% of the time, it's that we both love being on the water (hence our reasoning for needing a lake house).

While there are different aspects that we each enjoy (for him, fishing and jet-skiing; for me, reading and basking in the sun) it is something you can find us doing with 90% of our free time, weather permitting.

In addition to the river and all the endless possibilities for having fun that it provides, I'm also thankful for my job. Yes, I would be thankful for any job, but I truly believe God placed me here in Montgomery to find this particular work family.

I was lucky getting my job, in that I "knew somebody who knew somebody" but that most definitely did not mean I was privilaged. He got me an interview, from there it has been blood, sweat, and literal tears to get me to the position I'm in today. To quote Drake, started from the bottom, now I'm here. I love what I do, I love who I work with, and even though you'll find me complaining about it when I get home some days, I really wouldn't trade my job for anything.

So tell me, what do you love about your town?

I'm just like you and Derek: I need to be by the water. It makes me feel so much better...about everything!

Thankfully Montgomery isn't too far from some stellar beaches :) It's all about perspective! Good job looking on the bright side.

You grammatically correct all-star. Making us all look bad hahaah. The river! I didn't understand the river thing until moving to Missouri but it has grown on me!

I will say- I love being by the water. We're right next to the Ohio river and don't know anyone with a boat- darnit! ;)

Montgomery is a nice place! I have been there a few times. I wouldn't worry about anyone correcting anything. People have too much time on their hands.

For the longest time I was dying to get out of Montgomery, now I'd love to be back. Well, in Mathews that is. Or Lake Martin. But realistically, Mathews is our best option.
