Spring Essentials

With Spring just around the corner there are a few items that I consider essential around this time of year. And I'm writing this as it's 42 and raining outside, but I'm pretending it's 75 and sunny (the best kind of weather, duh) like it was over the weekend.

Spring Essentials

A basic tee. If you were to look into my closet at any given time, you would find anywhere from 7 to 10 basic tee shirts in an assortment of colors. I actually have this exact shirt from Target and I love it. Target and Old Navy are my favorite places to get basic tees and they usually have some kind of awesome deal like 2 for $12 (which might explain why I have so many).

Bright bag. I usually am a neutral kind of girl when it comes to my purse, but I'm loving this blue cross-body by DKNY. It's the perfect color for spring but still not "too much" that it won't go with everything I wear.

Barnes and Noble Nook. If there's one thing that's essential all four seasons then this would be it. But I especially love having it in the spring when I can go sit in a chair outside and read while soaking up some sun. I like the original version because it's not touch screen, and  it doesn't have a glare outside.

Colorful rain jacket. We all know that April showers bring May flowers, but you don't have to look ugly during the "shower" portion of these events.

Camel sandals. There's nothing I love more than letting my tootsies come out to play when it gets warm enough and these sandals by ASOS are perfect for any outfit, dressy or casual.

Sunnies. Duh, the sun is out, you need sunnies. My personal favorite are mirrored aviators and I usually end up getting several $10 pair from the gas station because I either loose them, sit on them, or lose them. I've never owned a name brand pair of sunglasses and probably never will.

Spring colored nail polish. Spring means pastels and brights and what better way to showcase pretty colors than on your nails. I've recently mastered the art of finger nail painting without it chipping within an hour and I can't wait until I'm done with school and I can paint my nails regularly again.

What are your spring essentials?

Sunburnt Shenanigans

Hello and Happy Monday everyone! This weekend started off with working all day Friday, going back and forth with Derek, trying to decide how we would spend our weekend. I had casually mentioned earlier in the week I wanted to make a trip to the beach soon, before it got too hot and crowded. But we had also talked about taking the big boat out on the river. So after much debate, and trying to invite numerous friends and failing, we were up bright and early Saturday morning with one cooler, one jetski, and one sleepy Kalyn for a day trip to the beach.

At the boat ramp. It was such a gorgeous day. I wish every day was this perfect.

We had a little bit of ski trouble but after a few choice words and some QT with some silicone and a wrench, it was up and running.

Again, GORGEOUS day.

Doing his thing while I do mine.

Having strangers take your picture is the most awkward of awkward.

Even more awkward were these two couples (far right) beside us that sucked each others faces the whole time they were there. Derek got on to me for taking this picture but I reasoned that they weren't too aware of their surroundings.

This is what my feet looked like when I got home. So. Much. Pain. I have never had a sunburn this bad. What have I learned from this? Rub in sunscreen beats spray-on 100%.

Sunday, it rained and rained and rained some more. I spent the day casually napping and crying about my burned feet, while catching up on Grey's Anatomy. We ended the night going out for sushi (because we're out of groceries) and ice cream and playing COD together.

Also while looking through the memory card, I found this gem from last spring. We came back to his parents house one random evening and his dad insisted we have our picture together, because they didn't have any of us. That tan and that hair. I want them back.

I can't believe...

I can't believe that it's daggum March 27th in Alabama and it is 50 degrees outside. Come on Mother Nature, get it together. I wan to go to the beach, like yesterday.

I can't believe my birthday is less than one week away. I love birthdays because they're all about ME, duh. But I also can't believe that I'll be 23. It feels like yesterday I was just turning 21 and finally celebrating being legal, and just the day before that I was 16 getting my drivers license and buying my first car.

My 20th birthday.

Drinking a flaming shot on my 21st Birthday. Probably the nastiest shot ever to enter my system.

Celebrating my 22nd Birthday in style.

I know I'm probably too young to be wishing this, but I really wish time would slow down some. I'm having too good of a time for it to be flying by so quickly.

I can't believe that I'm finally seeing some progress in the weight loss department. I had lost 11 lbs and was stuck there for weeks. I woke up and weighed this morning and had lost 2 more pounds. Go me! Only 8 more to go until I finally reach my goal.

I can't believe it is about to me mine and Derek's anniversary. It feels like we just met yesterday, when it was really over two years ago.
Tailgating in Auburn last year.
We're celebrating by going to Talladega in May and I couldn't be more excited.

Green Shenanigans

Happy Monday, everyone! I know most of you are going to work but not me! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Here's how my weekend went down:

Friday started off great with a nice 12 hour shift at work. And ended great with PJ's, zombie killings, and snuggles with Derek.

Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day so we decided to take the boat out on the river and do a little fishing. And by fishing I mean reading while basking in the glorious 78 degree sunshine, while Derek fished. Not to say I didn't wet a few lines, but ever since I was little I never enjoyed fishing like the rest of my family unless it was shore fishing, but that's another story.

It was such a gorgeous day. At the end of the day, we didn't catch any fish but had a great time cruising the river, turtle watching, and sitting on the shoreline just enjoying the day with each other.

That night we went to our friend's house to help celebrate his birthday, then to our usual hole in the wall bar where I had my very first green beer. I was smart enough to drink it through a straw and lucky enough not to end up with green teeth at the end of the night. We ended the night pretty early, but it was still fun.

Sunday we spent the day unloading my whole apartment from Derek's enclosed trailer to the loft of his barn (where it will stay until we have a permanent home), cleaning out my car, and helping fix a lawn mower.

I finished Silver Linings Playbook, which was so good (look for a post this week) and now, I can finally watch the movie. We finished the weekend grilling hamburgers and sitting around a fire with some good friends.

Definitely not the wildest St. Patrick's Day I've had, but still a darn good weekend if you ask me.

As usual, I'm linking up with the fantabulous Sami for Weekend Shenanigans and Sarah from Life of Love for "This weekend I..."

Also.... I am linking up with Northern Belle Diaries for a fun Bloglovin' link up. Can't wait to meet new blog friends!

Spring is in the air

Yeeeeaaah, not really. It snowed this past weekend and today was barely in the 50's. Its March in Alabama, dang it, and I want some warm weather.

This is what spring should look like.

Buuuut back on track, since it's supposed to be Spring in the south, I decided I'd share with you all my Springtime goals. Remember when I made my Fall goals and didn't really follow up on them? Yeah, me neither. That's why I'm going to pinky promise to fulfill and document (to the best of my ability) my goals for Spring. Without further ado, and in no particular order:

Lose 5 lbs

Talk with both of my parents at least once a week

Find a church that Derek and I both like
(funny story, we tried to go to a new church on Sunday, however we were told the wrong time for service and showed up when everyone was leaving)

Do an unassisted pull up

Save $2000 by the end of May

Visit the beach as much as possible

Get Derek's anniversary present

Celebrate my Birthday like it ain't nobody's bid-ness

Plan my best friend's bachelorette party and be the best MOH possible during her wedding

Try more recipies

Read books

Okay, I think I've got enough goals to last me from now until May. I'm going to do my best to update all of my lovely readers as much as possible. Wish me luck!
